The best day of the year is finally here–the first day of school. While teachers everywhere are mourning the loss of summer, you’re beyond excited at the prospect of releasing your kids back into the wild–err, school hallways–and having some physical and mental space to yourself. Really, it feels like you’re going on vacation. By yourself.
Unfortunately, your kids’ teachers probably don’t feel the same. That feeling of dread—you know the one—where your kid is home from school for summer and you suddenly have to entertain them—is how teachers feel at the end of the long break. Faculty and staff at a school in the West Des Moines district in Iowa perfectly encapsulated this feeling at an employee meeting recently.

According to Fox 13, superintendent Lisa Remy was interrupted during a meeting by a school employee the day before the first day of school–that’s when over 30 faculty and staff members began to sing “One Day More” from “Les Miserables.” What makes it even better: the parody lyrics. My favorite (because this totally happened to me on more than one occasion when I was a high school teacher): “No more time for preparation. Will my lesson be a bore?”
