Kate Hudson is facing some serious fallout because of a comment she made during an interview she gave for her cover story in Cosmopolitan’s October issue. For the feature, she filled out a questionnaire–and some people weren’t pleased with what she wrote.
One of the prompts was “the laziest thing I’ve ever done.” Her response: “Have a C-section.”
@Fabletics was super excited to order when Kate Hudson said this about C-sections in @Cosmopolitan and now I won’t be. Shame on you. pic.twitter.com/Rds7syIDDW

In a previous interview, Hudson had told the story of why she had to have a C-section:
I was going to get induced because the baby was so big. Then my hips weren’t opening, and I wasn’t dilating. I was in labour. My contractions were two to five minutes apart and I couldn’t feel anything.
The doctor said I could go home, but it was such a pain in the butt to get to the hospital because we were being stalked by photographers. We went in at midnight, and I was like: ‘I am not going home. I just don’t want to do this again. Let’s just have a C-section.’ And so I got drugged up.
Some readers felt, however, that many were taking her comment out of context and missing the joke:
Dear #KateHudson
Having a C-Section is far from lazy, ok? pic.twitter.com/DcjmJbi6i0— Mrs ™ (@SuchACoolChick) September 4, 2017
While I assume her comments were a joke, I think the hurt feelings illustrate a larger point about childbirth and motherhood–moms often feel as if the work they do and the choices they make are seen as “lesser than.” And that is very real.
