The Maccabeats are back again, with a new one-minute video that is perfect for Israel’s Independence Day, Yom Ha’atzmaut. This year, the holiday begins on the evening of Tuesday, April 28.
The video is a beautiful a cappella cover of “From Now On” from The Greatest Showman. The band has shot the video from their respective homes while social distancing — although, truth be told, many of the Maccabeats’ OG videos look like Zoom calls! The song is all about finding the right priorities in life and not chasing after superficial or fleeting success and fame. It’s a timely reminder for all of us who are stuck at home, figuring out what really matters — our families, our communities, our safety, and our health.
The song ends with a repeated pronouncement:
“And we will come back home/Home, again!”
As the band wrote on YouTube: “While many of us can’t wait to leave our physical homes, we present this song in honor of Yom Ha’atzamut, a celebration of our spiritual, ancestral home.”
What a brilliant choice. Listen for yourself:
But wait, there’s more! Our favorite Jewish a cappella group is going to be putting out a lot more music! As the band wrote on social media, “In order to share as much of our music as we can, we’ve started a new series of one-minute performances, or ‘Maccabeats Minutes.’ Leave a comment letting us know what you’d like to hear next!”
So what are you waiting for?! Leave them a comment and you could get your favorite song covered by the best in the Jewish a cappella biz! Go, go, go, go!
