Award-winning actress Mayim Bialik is back with her series of Jewish holiday explainers, “You Know How I Know?!” — and this installment may be the best one yet. This week, she’s shedding some light on the Festival of Lights (yes, sorry, we couldn’t resist the pun).
That’s right, Mayim is here to humorously explain Hanukkah to us by breaking down a classic Hanukkah tune, “Hanukkah, Oh Hanukkah.” (PSA: If you haven’t given the Jack Black version of the song a listen yet, do it right now!)
Mayim takes us back to ancient Assyria and walks us — or rather, runs us — through the Hanukkah story. She breaks down the difference between Hanukkah and Shabbat candles. She talks about the different holiday foods, like latkes and sufganiyot and their “terrible surprise” of a jelly filling, and even shares some precious family Hanukkah photos. Aw!
So put on your yarmulkes (OK, maybe not), it’s time to watch Mayim celebrate the joy and light of Hanukkah.
