The good news about Mayim Bialik keeps on coming!
Just 10 days after we found out the former Blossom and Big Bang Theory star is making a movie based on her own life — which sounds almost too good to be true — we learn she’s about to star in a new TV show.
That’s right, for those of you who’ve been missing the brilliant Jewish actress after Big Bang Theory ended this May, we’re happy to report that Bialik is coming back to TV with a brand new sitcom called Carla. Cue in the celebratory dancing!
Not only that, she is collaborating on the new show with former Big Bang Theory co-star Jim Parsons. That’s right, “Shamy” (that’s an amalgam for Sheldon and Amy, the iconic couple the two actors portrayed) is back… though, alas, only behind the scenes. While Bialik will be starring in the show — which is based upon the charming British sitcom, Miranda — Parsons is only taking on a behind-the-scenes role, as co-executive producer, along with Bialik.
Carla will star Bialik as 39-year-old Carla (duh!) the owner of a cat cafe (OK, LOVE!) in Louisville, Kentucky. According to Deadline, Carla “struggles every day against society and her mother to prove that you can not have everything you want and still be happy.” We’re so down with that!
Carla will premiere on Fox in the fall of 2020, which, honestly, can’t come soon enough.
While we’re waiting, if you’re trying to picture what this show will be like, the good news is that you can stream all of Miranda on Hulu. The super-popular BBC comedy, which ran from 2009 to 2015, starred Miranda Hart (whom we also love in Call the Midwife) as a quirky joke shop owner. So there’s plenty for you to binge while you count down the days for next fall!
Mazel tov to Mayim and the whole gang! We’re so excited!
