The nominations for the 70th Annual Emmy Awards were announced this morning, and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel came away with 14 nominations. Mazel tov!
Not only was the show nominated in all the big categories (best comedy, best writing, etc.), four of its actors were recognized for their talent. Rachel Brosnahan (who plays Midge, the titular Mrs. Maisel, who is arguably a terrible mom) cinched a nomination for best lead actress. In the supporting categories, Alex Borstein got a nomination for best supporting actress in her role as Susie, Jane Lynch was nominated for her guest appearance as Sophie Lennon, and our fave Tony Shalhoub received a nomination for his work as Abe Weissman (Midge’s dad).
The full list of nominations the show received (take a deep breath):
1. Lead Actress in a Comedy Series (for Midge!)
2. Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series
3. Guest Actress in a Comedy Series
4. Best Comedy Series
5. Writing for a Comedy Series
6. Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series
7. Casting for a Comedy Series
8. Cinematography for a Single-Camera Series
9. Period Costumes (their outfits truly are amazing!)
10. Directing for a Comedy Series
11. Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Comedy Series
12. Hairstyling for a Single-Camera Series
13. Music Supervision
14. Production Design for a Narrative Period or Fantasy Program (seriously, did you *see* the retro kitchen on the show?!)
The show, ahead of its season 2 premiere, was renewed for a third season. The Mrs. Maisel instagram account wrote of the 14 nominations: “we are kvelling!”
We are, too.
