By now, we all know Ivanka Trump converted to Judaism in 2010–and her husband Jared Kushner is Jewish. Apparently, Kushner reportedly broke up with her briefly over their religious differences before marrying in 2008, according to The New Yorker. Before that, the couple had been dating since 2005.
So, how did they get back together after the brief breakup? It was all the matchmaking work of a mutual friend and former wife of media mogul Rupert Murdoch, Wendi Deng Murdoch. She apparently brought them together on a weekend yacht trip.
It’s no secret that the couple were raised differently–Kushner had been brought up in a Modern Orthodox household, while Ivanka was raised Presbyterian. This was not what Kushner’s parents had in mind–as they apparently wanted him to marry someone Jewish.
Kushner’s friend Nitin Saigal told The New Yorker how much Kushner loved Ivanka, “but the religious thing was important to him.” On her part, she told Vogue in an interview how lucky she felt to have met Kushner:
“It was nice finding someone who is a genuinely good person. I don’t take that for granted. I feel really lucky to have met, like, a great New Jersey boy.”
As of now, the couple are raising their children in the Modern Orthodox household.
