This study is probably my favorite in the history of studies ever. Because it involves wine, and I’m a writer, and all writers love wine. Recently, The Huffington Post reported that drinking a glass of red wine may have the same effect on the body as an entire hour at the gym. Let me repeat that: a whole hour.
The University of Alberta study proved that a component in red wine, resveratrol, can improve physical performance, heart function, and muscle strength–all without actually getting your butt to the gym. Lead researcher Jason Dyck explained why this could be groundbreaking information for people who can’t exercise due to illness:

“I think resveratrol could help patient populations who want to exercise but are physically incapable. Resveratrol could mimic exercise for them or improve the benefits of the modest amount of exercise that they can do.”
This is pretty much the best news ever. Moms, it’s time to break out that glass of red wine at dinner–because now there’s no reason to feel guilty about not making it to the gym that day.
