The finale of Hulu’s excellent “We Were the Lucky Ones” airs on May 2, just a few days before Yom Hashoah, Israel’s Holocaust memorial day. The full name of the holiday is Yom Hazikaron Lashoah Velagvurah — a day of remembrance for the Holocaust and heroism. It’s really powerful timing, as “We Were the Lucky Ones” does such an amazing job of remembering the story of survival and heroism — and also of loss — by following one Jewish Polish family.
And so, we decided to mark the ending of that day and this powerful series with a special event where we’ll discuss “We Were the Lucky Ones” with showrunner Erica Lipez, and you are all invited.
In this discussion and Q&A led by Kveller’s deputy managing editor, Lior Zaltzman, we’ll talk about how this show came to be, how the creators thought about the memory of the Holocaust, what it was like working with the incredible and authentic Jewish cast and will answer your most pressing questions about the show.
