So, there’s a new version of the Hatikvah (Israel’s national anthem)–sung by descendants of Nazis–which is especially timely as today is the 77th anniversary of the beginning of World War II.
The video has various descendants of Nazis singing the song with German lyrics praising Israel. While the gesture definitely seems to come from good intentions, I’m not sure how I actually feel about the video itself.
Perhaps it’s just a natural result of the uncomfortableness of the topic itself–or perhaps it’s the fact that I can’t help but wonder if it was made largely for the purpose of becoming a viral hit. Maybe I’m merely skeptical because I work in media (and know how the industry works). Either way, I’m not completely sold–or repelled.
