On Sunday, June 24, New Yorkers took to the streets to celebrate pride during its 49th annual pride parade. Joining the millions (literally) of marchers were many of New York’s elected officials (Governor Andrew Cuomo, Mayor Bill de Blasio) as well as many 2018 candidates (including, of course, Cynthia Nixon).
Among these, however, one government official stood out for his heartwarming tweet: Senator Chuck Schumer.
In a total Dad move, Schumer announces his daughter’s engagement by a tweet posted during the parade:
Marching in the #NYCPride Parade has special meaning this year as I am marching with my daughter Alison and her wonderful fiancée Biz! #HappyPride pic.twitter.com/xYj8ENi80N

As the Daily News reported, “It was not known how long the couple has been engaged and a Schumer spokesman was unable to elaborate.”
In previous years, Schumer has simply tweeted that he’s excited to be at pride.
It's #pride in New York and I couldn't be happier to march. #ILoveNewYork #Pride2017 pic.twitter.com/zRAgj8K4rJ

(Also, has he worn the same lavender shirt EVERY year?! He wears it well — but, still, we have questions.)
Alison Schumer, the 29-year-old younger daughter of the New York senator, does not work in politics; she is an executive at Facebook. Her fiancée, Elizabeth “Biz” Weiland, is currently a MBA candidate at Columbia Business School (according to her LinkedIn page). Their wedding date is set for November 18.
Mazel tov to the proud dad and the happy couple!
