Attention: The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season two teaser trailer just dropped. And it’s amazing.
We recently wrote about everything you need to know about the second season, including a premiere in Paris, Joel’s status as a main character, Midge’s new job, and more. But the teaser trailer gives us so many hints about what is to come in the second season of our favorite TV show.
Ready?
1. Midge is dating again
The first frame of the trailer is Midge and her mom sitting in a hair salon. Midge’s mom, Rose, tells her, “Relationships should be private, don’t you think?” Midge’s response? “Amen.” In a beat, Rose asks, “so are you dating?” Midge: “what?” The fast-paced dialogue is back.
2. Midge is a “mad divorcée”
A title card proclaims, “THE MAD DIVORCÉE of the UPPER WEST SIDE is back,” so…. does that mean she and Joel got a divorce between season one and season two?
3. Midge is still working at B. Altman & Co.
She’s now working as a switchboard operator, in the basement of the department store.
4. She and Susie are still a team
In a half a second clip, Susie spits out her water after something Midge says. We can only guess what hilarious thing she just said!
5. Rose looks disappointed and/or judgmental
Rose smokes in the corner of a room — perhaps a hotel room in Paris? — looking judgmentally at what’s in front of her. If we had to guess: probably her daughter.
6. Joel starts working with his dad
There’s a brief snippet of Joel and his Dad, Moishe (most memorable for his season one jokes about “saving 13 Jews out of Germany” and “explaining Yom Kippur to a gentile”), walking through Moishe’s garment factory. Does Joel finally join the family business?
7. Midge dates a doctor??
In a blink-and-you-miss-it shot, Midge is on a boat with Zachary Levi. Levi, we know, is set to play “an eclectic Manhattan doctor.” Maybe he’s Midge’s new love interest?!
8. Midge’s kids make an appearance
But it doesn’t seem like they’re going to play a major role in this season. Darn.
9. Outdoor aerobics?
The iconic work-out scene from last season may be topped this season with an outdoor hula-hoop class. Does that exist? Can we join?
10. Midge does more stand-up, DUH.
“If that’s not a deterrent for nuclear war, I don’t know what is,” she tells the audience at the Gaslight.
There’s other shots of her doing stand-up in the trailer, in fancier clothes:
And getting ready to go on stage… (Susie tells her, “Tits up!”)
And a shot as she’s on stage…
And a shot of Susie & Midge hugging, with a stage behind them:
11. There’s a big story taking place in the Catskills
a. Abe’s there!
Abe Weissman — Midge’s stoic dad played by the marvelous Tony Shalhoub — goes on vacation! There are two key shots in the trailer: one, he plays shuffleboard with a drink in hand, and two, he does lunges by a lake. Honestly, we’re here for #AbeOnVacation.
b. Not just Abe — the whole Weismman family goes to the Catskills
There’s a scene where Midge walks into her parents’ apartment and triumphantly shouts, “We’re going to the Catskills!” Then the trailer cuts to a car driving upstate, and then a performance at a resort, where we see Midge in the same yellow dress, sitting with her parents:
(Presumably this is the same thing as #AbeOnVacation.)
They’re also outside, at one point, watching fireworks (seems like the Fourth of July by the presence of the American flag to Midge’s right):
c. Midge wins a pageant
She’s named Miss Steiner 1959. Not sure what “Steiner” represents, perhaps the name of the resort? (Same lake where Abe is doing his lunges, right?)
d. Is Joel also in the Catskills?
There’s a quick shot of him in a bowling alley, with lots of greenery outside. (Plus, Michael Zegen, who plays Joel, was definitely filming with the rest of the cast.)
e. Are Joel’s parents also there?
Seems resort-y in the background. (And like Zegen, Kevin Pollak — who plays Moishe Maisel, also instagrammed from the Catskills.)
f. Do Midge and Joel dance in the Catskills?
Joel is looking at her with puppy-dog eyes as they dance. I bet we have not seen the last of their relationship (cute doctor or no cute doctor).
12. There’s a Yom Kippur scene
A quick shot of Abe and Rose at synagogue during Yom Kippur, saying the vidui, or confessional prayer.
13. Abe and Rose share a loving moment
Abe kisses Rose on the cheek, as they stand outside synagogue perhaps? (Although note, they’re wearing different outfits on Yom Kippur.)
14. Lenny Bruce returns!
He’s pictured doing a set at the Gaslight Café. More Lenny Bruce, please!
We are counting down the days until the season premieres.
