The Yankee at the Seder By Elka Weber
This is a truly American story of a Confederate family who invites a Jewish Union soldier to set aside differences and sit down with them at Passover. Based on actual events, it’s a book about the ways Judaism brings us together, and perhaps more interestingly–the ways it doesn’t. Set after the end of the Civil War, the book made me stop and think about how countless generations of Jews have reinterpreted the story of the Exodus in each age, to suit their needs.
