Rosh Hashanah is a great opportunity to do some crafts with your kids. Somehow apples and honey, the iconic symbols of the holiday, easily lend themselves to all sorts of fun art projects. If you’re tired of using a plain old plate and bowl for dipping apples in honey, try out this craft. Just a few fun (and sticky) steps later, and you’ll have a beautiful plate that you can use year after year. Just don’t put it in the dishwasher–this is a handwash-only kind of situation.
You’ll Need:
Glass plate
Small glass bowl
Mod Podge or similar kind of glue
Sponge applicators (you can also just cut up regular sponges)
Various colors of tissue paper
Honey dipper
Instructions:
1. Rip or cut tissue paper into smaller pieces (these do not have to be neat or even).
2. Turn plate upside down! You will be working on the bottom of the plate.
3. Brush a thin layer of Mod Podge onto glass plate using the sponge.
4. Press tissue in random fashion onto the Mod Podge. You may have to reapply glue in sections where glue has dried. Overlap tissue in places.
5. When surface is completely covered in tissue, brush a thin layer of Mod Podge over tissue to seal.
6. Allow to dry for at least 24 hours (until no longer tacky).
7. Repeat steps 1-6 with bowl.
8. When dry, flip plate over and place bowl on top. Add a honey server and you have a beautiful serving set ready to welcome a sweet New Year!
