Hot rabbi show on Netflix!! Is there more I need to say about Jewish TV premiering this September? Well, the truth is, there is! There are lots of exciting new shows premiering this month, and some that premiered in August (and that I missed on my list) that are still airing this September. Here’s what you need to know about Jewish TV coming this September:
September 1: “Forbidden Love” episode 7 on TLC (streaming on Max):
I’ve written about “Forbidden Love,” the very staged but fascinating reality show about couples who come from different faiths and what they do for love, and specifically about how I think that, despite the over-dramatization of the reality show, the relationship between Orthodox Eli and Catholic-born Laurie, who shares her process of conversion to Judaism, is a surprisingly real depiction of what it means to be a Jewish convert.
September 5: “Kathmandu” episode 3 on Izzy:
This show about a Chabad envoy couple, Shmulik and Mushky, and the people they meet on a mission to Kathmandu, Nepal, just premiered on Izzy on August 29, and features the one and only “Wonder Woman” star, Gal Gadot. Gadot only appears in the second episode of the show where she plays Yamit, an Israeli on a quest to find her missing sister. This show is not only a fascinating glimpse into the world of Chabad envoys and Israeli post-military travels, but it’s also Gadot’s only Hebrew language TV show, and her acting chops do not disappoint.
New episodes of “Katmandu” air every Thursday on Izzy in September.
September 12: “The End of Innocence” on ChaiFlicks
This Polish show tells the story of Hania and Janek amid political turmoil in 1960s Poland, with social unrest and an antisemitic “anti-Zionist” purge happening in the country, one that causes Hania’s parents to lose their jobs and find a life elsewhere. Hania is played by Polish actress Vanessa Alexander, who also stars in the celebrated Polish World War II series “Wartime Girls,” also streaming on ChaiFlicks.
September 23: “Brilliant Minds” on NBC
I don’t know if there is much Jewish about “Brilliant Minds,” but it is based on the story of an amazing Jewish British man, the late author and physician Oliver Sacks. Zachary Quinto of “Heroes” and “Star Trek” fame plays Dr. Oliver Wolf (the name does feel Jewish…), a larger-than-life neurologist who advocates for his patients and, along with his interns, explores “the last great frontier — the human mind — while grappling with their own relationships and mental health.” This isn’t the first time Quinto has paid tribute to a great Jewish man — he was amazing as Spock, a role originated by the late great Leonard Nimoy.
September 18: “Survivor” season premiere on CBS:
Last season, we had awesome Jewish representation on “Survivor” in Floridian musician Ben Katzman, and this season, we’re even more excited, because former Obama speech writer and podcast host Jon Lovett will be competing on the long-time reality series. The nice Jewish boy from Long Island looks truly adorable in the first teaser of his appearance on the show, in which he describes himself as “best in small doses” and also compares the skills needed as a speech writer to the ones needed to win the reality show — the ability to win people over and rope them along with your ideas. I think I might start watching the reality franchise just for him!
Can't believe I actually went on @survivorcbs and then you all see it in 2 weeks. 9/18: pic.twitter.com/k1SPjNdxR3

September 26: “Unsilenced” comes to ChaiFlicks
I’ve previously written about “Unsilenced,” the award-winning Israeli show based on the real story of Israeli President Moshe Katzav, who was accused of sexual harassment and assault, when it premiered on Izzy. Now it’s streaming on ChaiFlicks. It is fascinating and dark, well-written and acted, and will definitely feel resonant (and possibly triggering) to survivors of harassment and assault. Definitely not a show for the faint of heart, but great TV if you can stomach it.
September 26: “Nobody Wants This” on Netflix:
This is the big one we’ve all been waiting for! Seth Cohen, I mean, Adam Brody plays a hot rabbi who falls in love with a nice but not at all Jewish girl played by Kristen Bell, of “Frozen,” “Veronica Mars” and “The Good Place” fame. The chemistry between the two and the rabbi hotness level in the trailer is off the charts, though concerns have been raised about the way the show portrays Jewish women (if you have feelings about the show and want to discuss, feel free to share them on Kveller’s Jewish TV Club substack!).
