“Lyalkele” (Little Doll)

I think “Lyalkele” is right up there with Brahms’ iconic “Lullaby” and the Welsh traditional song “All Through the Night.” The lyrics may appear simplistic and uninteresting on paper (“go to sleep, my little doll”), but the lilting melody in waltz time transforms the song into something hypnotically spellbinding.
