11 Things Teens Want Their Parents to Know

Here.Now. is teen-driven Jewish movement to provide support, build connections, increase wellbeing and resilience, and reduce stigma around mental health. 1. Just because my door is closed doesn’t mean I am doing something terrible.

2. Sometimes when I am sad, it isn’t for any particular reason.

3. It’s OK to let me be sad sometimes.

4. Society has different pressures on teens now than when you were a teen.

5. Just because we don’t want to talk to you about something, doesn’t mean we don’t trust and value your opinion.

6. It’s OK if you don’t understand everything I’m going through. Your love and support are what matter most.

 

 

7. Just because something was easy for you, doesn’t mean it’s easy for me.

 

 

8. Let me fail sometimes. I learn from my mistakes.

 

 

9. My mistakes are not always a reflection of you. Sometimes they are — and sometimes they aren’t.

 

 

10. Sometimes communication is difficult. That doesn’t mean we are not trying.

 

 

11. We don’t expect perfection from you. We know you are learning alongside us.
