At “The Last Jedi” premiere this past weekend, actor Billie Lourd paid tribute to her late mom, Carrie Fisher, in the best way possible. She wore her hair in a braided bun, you know, the iconic one her mom wore as Princess Leia in the 1977 film “Star Wars: A New Hope.”

Lourd also wore the same ring Fisher wore to the “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” premiere back in 2015, as BuzzFeed pointed out. What a stunning and sweet way to celebrate her mother, while also celebrating her own success as an actor in the franchise. Like mother, like daughter, right?

During a previous appearance on “Ellen” in September, Lourd opened up about coping with the death of both her mother and grandmother Debbie Reynolds within a day of each other — and how it really depends on the day. What’s even harder is that no matter what she says, she feels it will be misconstrued:
It’s so hard to talk about. I don’t know, if I say that I’m doing good, I’m too happy. And if I say that I’m not doing good, then I’m a mess. So it’s really hard to know what to say about it because it is just so surreal and impossible to deal with.
She went on to tell Town and Country that this is also the first time in her life she gets to stand her own, however bittersweet that is (and the reality of being the child of a famous actor):
I’ve always kind of lived in their shadows, and now is the first time in my life when I get to own my life and stand on my own. I love being my mother’s daughter, and it’s something I always will be, but now I get to be just Billie.
“Star Wars: The Last Jedi” hits theaters nationwide this Friday. We know it’s gonna be good.
