Randi Zuckerberg Was Sexually Harassed On an Airplane

Randi Zuckerberg isn’t going to take it anymore. Especially when it comes to bad men getting away with bad behavior, and especially when they have money to placate. The Jewish Silicon Valley entrepreneur and sister of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg aired her frustrations on social media, in order to show just how common sexual harassment really is — and how it’s not OK.

Zuckerberg wrote about a terrible experience on her recent Alaska Airlines flight in a tweet, including a letter she emailed to the airline, revealing how a man seated next to her in first class kept making sexual remarks, ranging from ratings of women’s bodies to comments about touching himself, even making statements like, “Millennial women just aren’t willing to give some booty to get a job anymore.”

Zuckerberg apparently told the flight attendants about the situation, to which she was told “he was a frequent flier.” She wrote that they “brushed off his behavior, & kept giving him drinks.” While they offered to change her seat, Zuckerberg refused since she wasn’t the one doing anything wrong. In her email, she added that she is “furious with Alaska Airlines for knowingly and willingly providing this man with a platform to harass women.”

You can read the letter in its entirety below:

The airline responded, saying they are looking into the incident:

Women’s rights and girl empowerment are passions near and dear to Zuckerberg’s heart. Besides being in the tech world, she’s the executive producer on Dot, a girl-power children’s TV show on Sprout that’s based on her best-selling book of the same name (she’s also the author of Dot Complicated: Untangling Our Wired Lives and Missy President), and she runs Zuckerberg Media, her production company and marketing firm. You can read more about being a working mom in an interview with did with her here.
