Giving birth is difficult and scary enough (as amazing as it also is), but for one mom, it has become a nightmare. Canadian mom, Lindsey Hubley, gave birth smoothly back in March. It wasn’t until four days after that she was back in the hospital fighting a flesh-eating disease, according to CTV News.
The 33-year-old is now suing IWK Health Center and several doctors in Halifax, Nova Scotia, for negligence.When she initially went to the hospital for stomach pains a day after going home, her doctors sent her back home, claiming it wasn’t anything to worry about. Sadly, the next day, she was rushed into the ER for necrotizing fasciitis.
Since then, she’s had her legs and arms amputated–and undergone a hysterectomy. Her fiance, Matt Sampson told CTV how awful it has been:
“Having her watch the two of us leave and her sitting there for the rest of the night by herself in the hospital is absolutely tortuous. If it was just feet, it would be one thing. If it was just arms, it would be another thing. But there’s about nine different things we’re dealing with.”
Her lawyer has stated that her illness could have been prevented:
“Our allegations are that had she been properly assessed when she presented at the hospital … a substantial part of the damage, if not all of it, could have been prevented.”
How awful. We hope her family is being supported by those around them in the best way they can be. As of now, a GoFundMe has been started by Susan Hubley, Lindsey’s sister-in-law, as a way to raise money for her medical expenses. As of now, over $96,000 has been raised. Susan has commented on Lindsey’s current health:
“She continues to be in the intensive care unit and is fighting every day. She has a long journey ahead of her that will include more surgeries, months of rehabilitation, and adjusting to a new way of life for her, Mike, and sweet Myles. Lindsey and Mike will face many unexpected costs associated with her recovery and we hope to raise whatever we can to help this new family of three make the healing journey that they are about to embark on a tiny bit easier. We are thankful every day that Lindsey is still here and we look forward to the day she can head home to be with both her boys.”
