Mark Zuckerberg may just have become one of the most public Jewish dads ever. In the past, Zuckerberg wasn’t all that outspoken about his Jewish identity, not to mention being a dad who is raising his kids in a Jewish interfaith family with his wife, Priscilla Chan.
But on Facebook this past weekend, the Facebook founder posted photos of Max with a Kiddush cup, celebrating Shabbat:
“For shabbat tonight, we gave Max a kiddush cup that has been in our family for almost 100 years. Her great-great-grandfather Max got it after our family immigrated here and it has been passed down through our family ever since.”
Looks like they also baked challah!
Last February, Zuckerberg and Chan posted about how they celebrated the Chinese Lunar New Year, illustrating that they are trying to raise their children in a interfaith family where both cultures and being integrated and respected.
During the Chinese Lunar New Year, they explained how Max received her Chinese name, Chen Mingyu, during this time. Her first name is after her mother’s family name, while Mingyu represents hope for a brighter tomorrow.
