“The Snowy Day” is a classic of children’s literature by Ezra Jack Keats (born Jacob Ezra Katz) whose low-key, loving portrayal of Peter, a young black child playing in the snow, was a pioneer of diverse kid’s lit —not to mention a really lovely book worth treasuring.
Now the U.S, Postal Service is issuing a set of stamps commemorating the book, featuring Peter in his iconic winter wonderland and red snowsuit. You can pre-order them now; they’re released in October.
