Delivering your own baby seems like a super scary task. But whe one mom delivered her own baby because she couldn’t make it to the hospital on time–the baby was still inside its amniotic sac. Luckily, both are doing just fine.
Raelin Scurry, a mom from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, gave birth to her second child in a car on the way to the hospital. When she gave birth, her newborn was still inside its amniotic sac, which is a membrane that contains and protects the baby, placenta, and amniotic fluids while in the womb.
When her baby didn’t move at first, Scurry thought fast and poked at his face to see if he would move–and thankfully, he did. She waited a few minutes for her husband arrived to drive them to the hospital. Usually, the sac is broken when when the baby is born (typically because of the contractions), so this is not too common.
Scurry, of course, posted an Instagram photo of her son, Ean Jamal Vanstory Jr. or “E.J.”, afterward. He is doing well–and was born on August 5 weighing 3 pounds and 1 ounce at 29 weeks.
