Dolly Parton, our favorite country singer and debutante, founded Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in 1995, as a way to get kids around the country reading. This month, they reached their usual goal (an exciting one!): They mailed out over a million books, about 92,000,000 being free.

What made Parton start the program? Apparently, the reason is very close to home: Her dad never learned how to read.
