All kids have meltdowns sometimes, no matter who their parents are. Well, this is what happened to Drew Barrymore when she took her daughters to Disney World. Barrymore dished on what happened when she appeared on “Late Night With Seth Meyers” this past Thursday.
She took both her daughters, 4-year-old Olive and 2-year-old Frankie, along for what she called “the best experience ever,” and went on to say that she “just had tears of joy seeing their joy.”
Despite it being the “best time ever,” there were definitely some hiccups. She noted that all parents of young kids know this only too well, stating:
“If you’ve ever taken your kids to Disneyland or Disney World, it all ends at some point in mayhem.”
She shared a photo of Olive having a meltdown:
Barrymore explained what happened:
“In this case, she wanted to chase a duck or an egret. It was Florida, so some interesting bird … maybe a Disney employee ― maybe not, maybe wild,” the actress recalled. “But Olive was determined to catch it.
And in hindsight, as a parent you have these revelations like, ‘I should have let her catch it, because she either would have and been satisfied, or she wouldn’t have been and been mad at the duck—and not her mom, who tried to stop her from chasing the bird,’” Barrymore added. “I say just let ‘em chase it and see what happens.”
When Meyers asked Barrymore if she has a feeling when a tantrum is coming on, she told him they often happen “at the most interesting times,” stating:
“You cannot predict. I think you should have like 10 consistent tools in your arsenal. It’s either the tender loving approach or the ‘I’m very serious’ approach.”
Despite all of that, she still loved her experience at Disney World, and said Meyers definitely needs to take his kids there. Watch the entire video below:
