Many people have been tragically affected by Donald Trump’s Muslim ban–and many of them are families. For one couple expecting their first child, the ban could not have come at a worse time. Rachel Adrian, a nurse in Missouri, is expected to give birth to her first child this week, according to People. I can’t even imagine how awful it must feel to be separated from your family during a time that is supposed to be happy.
Rachel’s husband, Hoger Ameen, is in Iraq. They met while she was doing relief work there and they lived together in Iraq before she came back to Missouri. During that time, they had been completing his paperwork and he was getting ready to be able to move to the US, but given the current executive order, he’s going to miss the birth of his son. Naturally, he’s pretty upset, as he told People:
“As soon as we heard the news about the ban, all of our hope was gone. I don’t know when I’ll get to meet my son and I’m afraid that when I do get to meet him, he won’t know who I am.”
His reason for coming to America is pretty simple–he and Rachel wanted to be close to her family:
“We wanted to move back to America to be located near my wife’s family in Missouri. Family is very important to us and we want to stay close to them… Now, all of my dreams have been canceled.”
Rachel, of course, is also frustrated, and has tweeted a message for Trump:
