Mayim Bialik Has Strong Feelings About the Muslim Ban as a Grandchild of Refugees

This past weekend, Mayim Bialik attended the SAG Awards–and she had a lot to say about the refugee crisis. The “Big Bang Theory” star and feminist opened up about how it’s been a hard month for her because of the travel ban on refugees and citizens of seven majority-Muslim countries.

Mayim told Refinery29 how she feels as a grandchild of refugees:

“It’s been a hard day and a hard month, it’s a bit hard to wrap your head around all of this glamor. I’m a child of civil rights activist and a grandchild of refugees… [In] addition to being an actor, I’m a mom and I’m a scientist and I’m a writer and a daughter… I’m allowed to have opinions, too.”

She also noted that Americans have a lot of opportunities in the next “four years to assert their rights.” She added:

“We’ve got plenty of opportunities to do that as women, and our unique feminine sensibility will hopefully impact significant change over the next four years.”
