You’ll Never See This Chilling End Coming in New Gun Violence PSA

We’re approaching a very tragic anniversary this month. December 14th marks the four-year anniversary of the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. As a way to educate others about gun violence, there’s a new gun violence PSA urging viewers to be aware of the early warning signs for dangerous behavior.

Newtown parents Nicole Hockley and Mark Barden lost their 6-year-old sons in the Sandy Hook shooting–because of this, they teamed up with other victims’ families to create Sandy Hook Promise, which is a nonprofit that works to protect children from gun violence. Last week, the nonprofit released the new PSA in conjunction with their national “Know the Signs” campaign. A Sandy Hook Promise representative told The Huffington Post why this PSA is necessary:

“The PSA demonstrates how easy it is for one to overlook the signs of an at-risk individual demonstrating signs of violence, particularly gun violence, and that when one knows the signs, it can be prevented.”

The video is aptly titled “Evan,” which makes sense as it gives the viewer a look into the lives of high school students. What is actually surprising, however, is the chilling ending. It definitely didn’t go in the direction I thought it would–and that’s a good thing.

It’s important to #KnowTheSigns. We all need to, otherwise, tragedies like this will keep happening.
