Lena Dunham did it again. This time, she turned Donald Trump’s creepy words it into a Halloween costume. Of course, some love it–and some hate it. It’s not unlike her to have some polarizing reactions because of her comedy (and really, what comedian doesn’t), but this takes the cake.
The “Girls” star wore a cat costume, but with a twist: Yes, those are two hands feeling up her breast and crotch. Which means, wait for it… She’s a “grabbed pussy.”
Some fans absolutely loved Dunham for owning Trump’s words about “grabbing [women] by the pussy,” to make a point. Personally, I also love it. While it definitely is provocative, I don’t think it’s simply gratuitous for the sake of shock value–for me, it has meaning. It shows that words DO matter, and that women’s bodies also matter–and shouldn’t be casually objectified. Some of her Instagram followers commented in support, like this:
“Bravo @lenadunham, you will break the internet. Great job, girl. Perfectly sums up Trump’s stance on women.”
Others, however, felt that Dunham was making light of sexual assault, one commented:
“It’s one thing to call Trump out for his disgusting, sexist, and triggering comments but Lena, I feel like you of all people should also see how triggering this costume could be for survivors of sexual assault. You’re wearing a costume of blatant violence and it seems rather unproductive.”
What do you all think? Do you think she went too far, or that her costume was a clever way to make a political statement?
