In light of all the devastating events concerning police brutality and the killing of black men and queer people recently (see: Alton Sterling, Philando Castile, the Orlando shooting, the fact that police shootings increased in the first half of 2016, etc), it’s a crucial time to talk to your kids about privilege and systemic racism–and you know, how to be more inclusive and empathetic.
Luckily, we found a great resource to help you have this talk with your kids. Chescaleigh, a YouTube blogger and writer, made an amazing video on how to understand privilege–and how to combat it. The video itself is about three minutes long and features illustrations and animations by Kat Blaque.
It’s a simple story about the friendship between Snail and Caterpillar, and how they are different–thus, making it easy for kids (and adults) to understand.
