This New Website Will Make Traveling Easier for People with Disabilities

Everyone needs to go on vacation, regardless of who you are and what your life is like. Making travel arrangements is difficult and tedious for all, but imagine how hard it is for those with special needs and disabilities. However, there’s finally a website that makes it a bit easierAccomable is similar to Airbnb except that it lists disability-accessible properties around the world (as opposed to random properties often catering to people without disabilities).

I love this. I love how their website literally says its goal is to “to enable anyone to go anywhere.” Srin Madipalli and Martyn Sibley, the founders of Accomable, both have spinal muscular atrophy and use motorized wheelchairs. Because they know all too well the need for a service like this, they created it. Accomable launched in June 2015, partially supported by the Skoll Foundation, which is a charity founded by Jeffrey Skoll, eBay’s first president.

Services like these are necessary for our society, as it will literally make life easier for all people with disabilities and mobility issues, including the elderly. In the future, Accomable wants to involve accessible car companies, medical equipment hire companies, and disability insurance providers all under one platform, according to CNN.

Madipalli explained to CNN what his longtime goals, stating:

“What we’re trying to do is create the same experience for a disabled person booking travel, as an everyday person would have. For some people that may be this mind-blowing effect, for others it might just be the chance to put their feet up under the sun.”

What Madipalli hits the nail right on the head–traveling shouldn’t be a luxury, it should be possible for everyone. To get better idea of the service, watch this video of an Accomable listing below:
