In my mind, autumn is irrefutably the superior season of the year. There’s no more sticky humid sweating, the air smells better, and you get to wear boots and scarves. There’s also that whole magical leaf thing–they turn beautiful colors, they fall out, and they achieve that perfect crunchy texture for some prime boot-stomping.
As a kid, I would jump into a pile of crunchy leaves at any chance I got. I actually assumed that was the purpose of raking leaves, and very much appreciated adults for their warm consideration of my needs. I suppose leaf crunching is slightly frowned upon now that I am one of those “adults” but that doesn’t mean I have to stifle my love for autumn.
There are plenty of great craft projects that are an easy way to bring the spirit of the season into your home. These Luminous Leaf Lanterns from Twig and Toadstool would make the perfect autumn dinner table accessory, and all you need are a few leaves, a glass bowl, and Mod Podge. Creative Chicks offer up a leaf rubbing project that is the perfect way to get your kids involved with setting up the dinner table. They suggest laminating the rubbings in order to use them as place mats.
Autumn never lasts for as long as I want it to, so getting as much out of those leaves before they’re buried in snow is a top priority. If I can’t roll around in them, at least I can stare at their beauty in an acceptable manner.
