3 New Jewish Kids’ Books You Need to Read

Reading was an important facet of my childhood that has carried into my adult life in a major way. A child who is adroit at reading and reading comprehension can carry those skills for the rest of their lives. Long story short: I love books, y’all. That’s why I’m super pumped to share the winners of the 2015 Sydney Taylor Book Award with my fellow Kvellers.

The Sydney Taylor Book Award honors “new books for children and teens that exemplify the highest literary standards while authentically portraying the Jewish experience.” The award is given in memory of Sydney Taylor, the author of the All-of-a-Kind Family series.

Jim Aylesworth and Barbara McClintock, author and illustrator of My Grandfather’s Coat

Loic Dauvillier, Marc Lizano and Greg Salsedo, authors and illustrators of Hidden: A Child’s Story of the Holocaust

Donna Jo Napoli, author of Storm

The recipients will receive their awards at the Association of Jewish Libraries Conference in Washington, D.C. this June.

The winners and honorable mentions will also be participating in a blog tour in February. You can find an event near you on the schedule here.

Additionally the Award Committee designated 16 notable books of Jewish content for 2015. You can find them here.
