Mazel tov to Miriam Ezagui! The social media sensation and labor and delivery nurse, who’s gone viral for sharing about her customs as an Orthodox Jew, just welcomed her fifth child — another daughter, joining Naomi, Zahava, Aviva and Dassy. After her birth, Ezagui shared a video of the gender reveal that she held for her family while still pregnant, an intimate moment with just the four girls and her husband Aron, who didn’t seem too invested in the gender of the baby, and just generally seemed thrilled for a new newborn.
Ezagui also shared pictures from her birth, saying that she hired Dina Duchan, a fellow Orthodox creator who took her other daughters’ newborn photographs, to take labor photos, something she had never done before. The pictures show her and her husband in the moments before birth as well as pictures of the newborn in her first moments outside of the womb. “I will treasure these memories forever,” Ezagui wrote. As for the baby’s name, we will probably have to wait another few days to find out what they chose.
As she’s done these past few years, Ezagui had been sharing illuminating videos about Jewish pregnancy customs, from skipping religious fasts when you’re with child to how she feels about not going to the mikvah when she’s pregnant, and also shared that she hopes she doesn’t give birth on Shabbat so she can document the process. She also continued sharing videos of her life and customs, videos about modest fashion and sheitels (wigs), her husband’s delightful Costco hauls, babywearing videos and more. Some of the most moving posts of Ezagui during this pregnancy were the photos she had taken in Auschwitz, the concentration camp her grandmother Lily Malnik survived.
“I am here in Auschwitz, the concentration camp that my bubby was imprisoned at,” she shared in a video, “and I am here to tell you that evil existed then, and it still exists now,” she continued, referring to an antisemitic hate comment she got on a previous video. “But so does goodness and kindness and because of that I am alive before you, and I stand before you, with new life inside of my womb, because goodness will always prevail over evil.”
We are so glad to see Miriam feeling healthy and happy after the birth, and wish a hearty mazel tov to the entire Ezagui family.
