It feels like everything has changed since the October 7 Hamas attack in Israel and the ensuing Israeli military strikes on Gaza. We are grieving all the lives lost in the past few weeks and feeling the reverberations of what’s happening all across the world in a myriad of ways.
The war in Israel has made being a Jewish parent — in Israel and the diaspora — much, much harder and more complicated. A lot of us are having conversations with our kids that we never wanted to have, trying to assure them of their safety while also fearing that any overt displays of Jewishness may put them in harm’s way.
Many of us are also having important and eye-opening talks with our kids about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and its history, and about the place of activism right now. We’re making a lot these parenting decisions while feeling a great deal of fear and grief, and yet, in many cases, also feeling a desire to show Jewish pride and solidarity more than ever.
Kveller wants to know about how these recent events have changed your parenting, the conversations you’re having, and you and your kids’ relationships to your Jewish identities. If you have a few minutes, we’d love it if you could take the time to answer this short survey — both so that we can better understand what’s going through the minds of Jewish parents right now, and so we can help assure you that whatever you’re currently grappling with, you are surely not alone. The answers provided in the survey may be used in an upcoming piece on Kveller, but will be kept anonymous if you wish.
