Shira Haas Is About to Star In a New Israeli Show

It's called "Night Therapy" and it sounds pretty amazing.

We miss Shira Haas on our screen so much. The “Unorthodox” and “Shtisel” star is one of Israel’s brightest talents — she’s won two Israeli Academy Awards and has been nominated for a Golden Globe and an Emmy. Yet it’s been more than two years since her last TV project, the third season of “Shtisel,” premiered on Netflix.

Turns out we finally have another Shira Haas show to look forward to, and this one is really special, marking Haas’ return to the Israeli Yes Studios which brought us “Shtisel.”

Haas is joining the cast of “Night Therapy,” where she will reunite with the wonderful Yousef Sweid after acting together in “Unorthodox.” Sweid, an Arab-Israeli actor and father of two, has starred in many shows and movies in Israel and outside of it, including “Walk on Water,” “The Bubble,” “False Flag,” “American Odyssey” and yes, “Game of Thrones.” You might also recognize him from the pilot of “Homeland” or when he played a version of writer Sayed Kashua in “The Writer.”

In “Night Therapy,” Sweid will be playing Louie, an Arab-Israeli therapist whose Jewish-Israeli wife dies by suicide. He struggles to balance raising their two children by himself and shifts to caring for his patients at night, after the children go to sleep.

Haas will play one of Louie’s patients — a computer maven who spends most of her time homebound, engaging with the world through her computer screen.

Other cast members include “Fauda” stars Lucy Ayoub, Yaakov Zada Daniel and Firas Nassar. A Yes Studios press release promises that it “will be a touching, emotional and sexy series.” (Ooh la la!)

The show is currently in production and no release date has been shared yet, but I really hope “Night Therapy” makes it stateside soon, especially as we rarely get to watch shows that represent Israel’s Arab population.

In the meantime, Haas has a lot of other exciting projects on her plate.

Most recently, she was seen working on “Captain America: Brave New World,” where she plays a Jewish superhero, Sabra, coming to theaters in 2024. Her upcoming Netflix show “Bodies,” in which she plays DC Maplewood, is currently in post-production. And she’s also slated to star as a young Golda Meir in an upcoming TV series, produced by Barbra Streisand.

All these projects sound incredible, and truly worth the wait to watch Haas’ singular talent grace our screens once more.
