Today was a day our country’s youth showed us what it was made of. Thousands of students joined the National School Walkout — taking to the streets to protest gun violence and in support of gun control.
The walkout was in solidarity with the students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School of Parkland, Florida, where 17 people were recently killed in horrific massacre. (Most walkouts were scheduled for 10 a.m. and lasted 17 minutes, one minute for each victim). According to the Washington Post, organizers indicated that nearly 3,000 schools agreed to take part in the walkout, and many more planned events and memorials independently.
Our social media feeds were filled with amazing photos and videos of students marching, participating, and protesting — for their future; the future of our children. I think we can all kvell about their seriousness and initiative.
